The Power of Mother's Love

"There is no mother but loves her child"

During this summer vocation, I saw a film, called "The Unknown Woman", which is so powerful that I can't forget easily. The movie mainly tells about an mysterious Ukraine woman, named Irena, who moved to Italy city alone. She was eager to get a job in a jeweler's house as a maid. Then, she also had to take care of their four-year-old daughter. However, arcane Irena always stealed into the house owner's office and tried to find something, which was so suspicious that the jeweler's wife started to keep an eye on her. When Irena's unknown past was exposed little by little. This happiness family involved in a horrible storm.

In the movie, Irena was a stowaway. Then, she was sold to a hustler. She had to not only work as a whore but also satisfy her hustler's sex desire; otherwise, she would be hang upside down, whipped seriously, which is so crule and inhumanity. Nevertheless, the only thing that makes her to live is to find her daughter. Then, she found the jeweler's daughter. While she was working, she would try to get close to her, bought expensive toys for her and even taught her how to defense and fight back. Regardless of the shocking ending, the mother's love toward her daughter is fully expressed.

Then, for her lovely daughter, she did many dread things. For one thing, she killed the hustler in order to get away from him and that scene was produced bloody. Second, she ate what the family in the garbage can so as to know what's their taste. Third, to get into her daughter, she made the first old maid in the jeweler house fall from the stairs, who became a disable woman finally. All things she had done might not be accepted by most of us. But, what if they all consider for love? How much are you willing to pay? All of your wealth or your life?

This movie's director is Giuseppe Tornatore, who is famous for the film "Nuovo Cinema Paradiso". His uses of aboundant film language make this movie more powerful, such as the comparation of lightness and darkness, different angles of shots and a lot flash back can be seen in the movie, which will let the story be more interesting. With his direction, the film also tracks me into a reflection that we often take our mother's care for granted. Yet, being a mother is not like that easy. So, we should be grateful and considerate.
